As many as six people were killed and 36 others injured after a portion of the foot overbridge near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai collapsed at around 7.35 pm today (Thursday).
Earlier today, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of those killed within the incident and a compensation of Rs 50,000 every for the injured people. The Chief Minister also ordered a high-level enquiry into the incident.
“An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each are given to the families of those who died within the incident and compensation of Rs 50,000 every are given to the injured, state government can give for his or her treatment,” Fadnavis, who visited the incident spot to take stock of the situation, said.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh called the incident “deeply saddening and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“The collapse of a foot overbridge in Mumbai is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones in this accident. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Singh said.
