Punjab – CM Amarinder Singh to PM Modi, punjab needs Rs 1000 crore flood relief package.

In wake of the flood situation within the state, punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking Rs 1000 crore special relief package to address the losses.

The Chief Minister has also urged the Prime Minister to instruct the concerned authorities to waive off crop loans of banks or money institutions availed by the affected farmers within the affected villages during this cropping season, read a statement from punjab CMO.

The flooding in river Sutlej because of the discharge of water from Bhakra Dam, the heaviest since 1958, had caused intensive damage to the standing crops and inundation of residential areas within the villages, the Chief Minister said.

Realising the gravity of true, the state government had declared it a natural calamity within the affected areas, aforesaid the Chief Minister, adding that though necessary help was given by the military authorities, the floods in stream Sutlej had severely damaged standing crops, houses and alternative rural and urban infrastructure at several places, especially within the districts of Ropar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Kapurthala covering over 100 villages.
